Since his arrival as principal conductor in 2014, Mielgo has led a deep artistic and institutional modernisation of the Orquestra Simfònica de les Illes Balears, raising its artistic level, international visibility and social roots across all the islands.

Educational and social structure around the OSIB

Petita Simfònica & Acadèmia Simfònica

One of Mielgo's most important legacies within the OSIB has been the development of a genuine educational and social structure around the orchestra, opening it to children, families and new generations of musicians.

Petita Simfònica: Children and youth orchestra with the leading talents of the Balearic Islands, sharing music with OSIB professionals. A bridge between generations promoting Balearic talent.
Acadèmia Simfònica: High-level orchestral training for young Balearic and international musicians, with professional mentoring and integration in real dynamics.
Impact: The OSIB establishes itself not only as a concert orchestra, but as an active centre of training and artistic development.

New home and reference music centre for the Balearics

Caixa de Música

The future Caixa de Música project represents one of the most ambitious cultural milestones linked to Mielgo's vision for music in the Balearics: a stable musical ecosystem for the coming generations.

OSIB home: New permanent home for the Orquestra Simfònica de les Illes Balears.
Music centre: The future Caixa de Música, promoted by the Govern de les Illes Balears and conceived as the permanent home of the Orquestra Simfònica de les Illes Balears, represents one of the most ambitious cultural projects in the recent history of the Balearics: a great musical, educational and social centre intended to place the Islands on the international cultural map and to consolidate a true home for symphonic music, artistic creation and future generations.
Programming: Symphonic activity, training, social outreach, residencies and international programming.
Ambition: Place Palma and the Balearics on the European circuit of reference music infrastructures.

Florida Grand Opera

His appointment as Music Director of Florida Grand Opera, alongside its CEO María Todaro, is one of the most important international recognitions of his career, with an artistic agenda connecting Europe, Latin America and the United States.

SaludArte Foundation

Since 2005, Mielgo has been the artistic director of SaludArte Foundation, a platform that uses music and the arts as a driver of educational and social transformation on an international scale.

International youth orchestras

Mielgo has founded or driven several young, international ensembles, generating real opportunities for new generations of performers and fostering exchange between cultures and schools.

Presjovem Youth Orchestra: Orchestral training platform for young performers.
Iberoamerican Youth Orchestra: Artistic bridge between the two shores of the Atlantic.
Harmonia Symphony Orchestra: Symphonic project of high artistic demand.
BandArt Orchestra: Ensemble created under the honorary presidency of Sir Colin Davis.

International education

ARTISTIC CO-DIRECTOR

Academia Filarmónica de Medellín

In 2011 he joined founder Alejandro Posada and Roberto González Monjas as artistic co-director of the Academia Filarmónica de Medellín, a project inspired by José Antonio Abreu's educational philosophy and the El Sistema model. He helps shape its development, the partnership with Hilti International, and its transformation into the Academia Filarmónica Iberoamericana project.
